This is the commonest tulipa in the Israeli desert, growing in rocky habitats. It is characterized by 6 almost equal perianth lobes and a black patch at the base of the inner side of the perianth lobe, that doesn't have a yellow stripe at its edge. Its morphological borders with Tulipa agenensis are not clear and one can see a gradual change between the 2 species. The similarity of our populations and the Iranian ones should be checked.
