'Fleur de Lis'

David Fenwick
Attached a pic of a
new hybrid Tulbaghia that I have bred and has just flowered for me. Seed
to flower in ten months. I'm calling it Tulbaghia cominsii x
violacea 'Fleur de Lis' and it's special in that it is the largest
flowered cominsii x violacea hybrid I've seen, with
flowers an inch across. It's parent is a hybrid called 'Purple Eyes' which
was selfed.
My fingers are crossed
that its hardiness will match its flower size. T. cominsii x
violacea easily taking temps down to -5C outdoors.
Two other new hybrid
Tulbaghia have just been released in the UK, violacea 'Lilac
Beauty' and violacea 'Fine Form'. If anyone is thinking of getting
them, don't bother, they are extremely similar to varieties of violacea
that already exist. I spent a lot of time trying to get them, and was
very disappointed when they flowered.
Best Wishes,
Dave (Jul 11, 2003)
