Scadoxus multiflorus ssp. multiflorus

Irinka A. (Irina Alfyorova) Jan 28, 2006

I grow Scadoxus and Haemanthus species in doors in Holland. This Scadoxus is growing in a 9 inch pot with 2 others, and its umbel is about 5 inch across. I loved the picture and thats why I want to share it with other bulb-heads.

This Scadoxus is helping to prolong the season of my enjoying my collection. There is one other sending up its scape -- the Scadoxus membranaceus. I'll try to get a picture of those when them actually bloom.

Maddy in South Africa

It is amazing what 30 mm of rain can do, especially when it comes as late to the Limpopo Province Lowveld as it did this year! It finally arrived last week, and this is what I found on Monday morning. They used to grow under a shrub until we had some bush clearing done. The wood cutters unfortunately were a bit over-enthusiastic and the supervisor was not watching, and the following summer there were no Scadoxus whatsoever to be seen in the area. I had already assumed they had died and I was ecstatic to see them again this year! No worse for wear, even though they are growing in the full blazing sun all day long now.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
