Pamianthe peruviana

It takes about 15 months for a Pamianthe peruviana seed pod to reach maturity. The above picture shows the seed pod has just opened with the winged seeds still intact. Pamianthe peruviana seeds must be sown soon after harvest for maximum viability. Seedlings grow well in compost rich in organic matters in a shady environment.

The image shows a pot of Pamianthe peruviana which was flowering a month ago. It was the second time the bulb flowered since I got it from a friend in England about four years ago. It flowered for the first time about two years ago with two huge flowers on a spike but this time, the spike carried four flowers. The huge flowers resemble a narcissus and filled the living room up with sweet fragrance for about two weeks.
