Lycoris radiata
Flowering now (in my growing conditions). Leaves will appear later in autumn. Bulb and leaves very similar to Sternbergia lutea but it is not.
A stem 5 inches high (about 15 cm) supports 4 red regular flowers on 3-3-6 type. I don’t know anything about pistil.
Origin: Near a lake in Nepal (collected there some years ago). First time it’s flowering!
Actually grown in South West of France:
Climate: winters with sometimes freezing, no snow. Warm summers (no over passing 35°C°)
Rain: This year is special. Poor raining all year long, and some big storms in August and now.
Ground: Clay and acid pH. I’m making it better with sand, Ca++ and humus.
Enemies: Snails and worms (I nearly lost the flowers as you can see it on the picture….)
