In "The Iris", Brian Mathew states that "..the wild forms I grow are much more attractive than the commercially available clone." The ones shown in this photograph (taken at Kew) are quite distinct from the usually available clone. This species is notorious for splitting into many smaller, non-flowering offsets unless planted deeply enough.
