Hippeastrum
calyptratum habitat
Hippeastrum calyptratum is native to densely wooded area at
about 1,200 m in Organ Mountains. Bulbs of this species grow on rocks
covered with moss, soil pockets with rich organic matters and on tree
trunks up to 12 m above ground level. The attached picture shows a colony
of small bulbs growing on the upper part of a big rock where the bulbs
enjoy full sun. A fairly large bulb, probably has fallen by gravity from
the rock surface, clings to the lower part of a vine. In the habitat,
Hippeastrum calyptratum enjoys a cool and humid environment.
While most bulbs grow in bright light, some bulbs were found growing in
deep shade.
