Hippeastrum x johnsoni

Mark Wilcox

Speaking of frost-tolerant Hippeastrums, as Jim Shields just did on the main list, this seems to be the time for them to bloom.

I planted this fine specimen of Hippeastrum X johnsoni in the spring of 2001. Granted, we had a very mild zone 7 winter last year, but the plant and its 4 offsets came back strongly this spring after a few nights of 25ºF during the winter. It appears that each inflorescence is going to produce 6 flowers.

Wish they all did that!
The second picture is a close up of the blooms.
