| Habranthus
howardii
This yellow Habranthus was originally described as Zephyranthes
howardii from dried specimens but upon close examination,
the flowers revealed at least 3 different filament lengths
which is indicative of Habranthus. It is a dry climate species
with a large bulb and has many characteristics of the Cooperia
group of Zephyranthes such as glaucous foliage, slight fragrance,
large bulb buried rather deep below ground, reluctance to
offset and blooms that open in the afternoon to evening. Could
this be a natural, stable hybrid between the yellow H.
concolor and the white Z. drummondii (a.k.a. Cooperia
pedunculata)?
