I grow them in the shade and they perform well. After noticing the leaves getting a bit pale I decided to give them some acid fertilizer every so often. The leaves got a deeper green and the plants grew better. I now alternate an acid fetilizer with a "blossom booster" fertilizer, both at 1/4 to 1/2 strength every other watering in the growing season.
