Gethyllis species

The above picture shows a miniature Gethyllis which was discovered in a dry mountain pass in an area to the south of the Richtersveld, South Africa. Bulbs were found growing underneath low bushes which is a rather unusual habitat for a Gethyllis. The area experiences rainy freezing winter nights and sorching summer days. Its bulbs are about 1.5 cm in diameter. Like other Gethyllis, this miniature species is sweetly fragrant.
