Eucrosia mirabilis
Attached is an image of the apparently lost species, Eucrosia
mirabilis. I grew the plant from seed purchased from Chiltern
seeds named Stenomesson sp. "White Parasol". In consultation
with Alan Meerow, he identified it as Eucrosia mirabilis.
His exact words are: "Dan, Well, I can't really be 100% sure.
The type specimen of this species is a waste of time, and
Baker claimed 30 flowers on this species. It sure looks like
the illustration in his publication, however, despite the
lower floret number. I've been communicating with a young
botanist in Ecuador who re-collected this species in the field.
She and I contemplating co-authoring a paper on the rediscovery
of E. mirabilis. I'd say I'm 90% sure. Alan."
It is possible that as the bulb ages it will produce more flowers.
Anyway, I thought I would submit the image for the Bulb Gallery.
