Crocosmia 'Fleuve Jaune'
Crocosmia 'Fleuve-Jaune':
Clumps very floriferous, flowers erect, Naples yellow. This variety is an
improvement on 'Solfatare'.
Bred 1893 by Victor Lemoine of Nancy, France.
First reference: Victor Lemoine Catalogue No. 131, 1893
Lemoine's Catalogues 1893-1920, 27 years +.
This Crocosmia was found to be growing at Trengwainton Gardens in West
Cornwall, UK. It is very similar to 'Solfatare' which many of you will know
and has the same bronze foliage. As for being an improvement well yes
possibly as the flowers are slightly larger and are more open. The
contributing factor to its identification was purely the fact that once
realeased by Lemoine its sale price was cheaper than 'Solfatare's'; a clear
guide that the plant is more vigorous and produces corms more freely, which
it does.
