Calochortus amoenus

Mary Sue Ittner
Calochortus
amoenus is in bloom right now and Calochortus
umbellatus and uniflorus have been blooming for months.
You'd like C. amoenus. It is one of my favorites. This is a picture
taken last year when it was really happy. With everything so dry and warm
I fear we will have a shorter blooming period this year.

Calochortus amoenus,
the Rosy Fairy Lantern or the Sierra Globe Tulip, is from section Calochortus.
It occupies a north to south range in the Southern Sierra Nevada of California
from Madera to Kern counties from 1000 feet (300 meters) to as high as
5000 feet (1650 meters). It occupies north and west facing grassy slopes
of the Sierra foothills, frequently on the steep walls of river canyons.
It is frequently but not always found in the shade.
