Introduction: Caliphruria is a small genus closely allied to Eucahris. It comprises 4 species, namely C. korsakoffii, C. hartwegiana, C. subedentata and C. tenera. With the exception of C. korsakoffii which is native to northern Peru, the other 3 species are native to low montane forests in Colombia.

Synonyms: Caliphruria korsakoffii was previously known as Eucharis korsakoffii or Urceolina korsakoffii. C. hartwegiana was also recognised as Urceolina hartwegiana . C. subedentata is still often referred to as Eucharis fosteri.

Conservation: According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants, C. tenera is considered an extinct species, due to destruction of habitats. C. hartwegiana and C. subedentata are classified as endangered species. C. korsakoffii is considered a rare species. C. subedentata is probably the most commonly cultivated species of the genus. Caliphruria should be more popular in cultivation for their highly ornamental dark glossy foliage.
