Apodolirion buchananii

It is Apodolirion buchananii. Commonly called the Natal Crocus. Bulbs are found scattered over Natal and are found up to an elevation of about 700 metres. Flowers are induced by fire. Very difficult to grow. The flower lasts a few days at the most and as you can see the bulb is hysteranthus. When not in flower this bulb is very difficult to find. In fact, I have only ever seen one bulb in flower and that was on the private estate at Mbona near Howick.
