coranica
Panos & Stavros Dimopoulos (June 28, 2007) Greece
This photo was taken along a road side to the north-east of Bloemfontein, South Africa in October 2005. The bulb grows in a well-drained, sunny and flat land. It flowered a week or so after receiving a good rain.

The plant was collected in the Soutpansberg area, in the warm summer rainfall area, in the northern parts of South Africa, is differs from all other Ammocharis coranica plants that I have seen, it has Brunsvigia-like flowers (very small) and the plant is evergreen, continuing to grow through the very cold winter months in South Africa. The seedlings are very slow growing and produces a single blue/green grass like leaf.

I was just back from a visit to South Africa. The trip
was most enjoyable. I took a number of photos of wild and cultivated bulbs.
Please find attached two pictures of Ammocharis coranica
which were taken in Cradock in Eastern Cape.
