Amaryllis belladonna ex Calabria,
Italy

Angelo Porcelli
Pic of an Amaryllis belladonna I found in an
abandoned garden last year in Calabria-south of Italy. These bulbs are
a bit out of the normal belladonna and also they don't fit with
any of the Johannesburg nor Kimberley type which I grow too. Another feauture
is that they have shorter leaves, not glossy but dull dark green with
a bluish cast too. I sent one bulb to Dave Fenwick to 'study' the subject
and now that it is blooming for him too. He will be adding some photos
in his gallery under the name Amaryllis belladona ex Calabria
Italy.
As you can see, there is a wide white throat and flowers
are rather large, 10cm across and 10cm long (4'') I would like to hear
your opinion on this plant.
