Amaryllis belladonna Habitat

In the natural habitats, Amaryllis belladonna flowers shortly after a bush fire. The above picture, which was taken on a very steep hillside near Cape Town, shows thousands of Amaryllis belladonna bulbs flowering profusely a week or so after a bush fire in Autumn. In cultivation, however, bulbs do not necessarily need fire for flowering.
