BULBS welcomes articles on many topics pertinent to the botany and horticulture of geophytic plants. The families of interest include Amaryllidaceae, Liliaceae, Hyacinthaceae, Iridaceae, and Zingiberaceae, and include genera and species characterized by bulbs, corms, rhizomes, or tubers. Articles can be personal, casual in tone, and humorous. they can be scholarly or technical, though the author should not assume that the entire readership has technical training. Authors may safely assume that the readership of BULBS are experienced amateurs, in the highest sense of the word.

The Editor is particularly interested in articles dealing with:

  • practical horticultural skills and techniques;
  • first-person accounts of plant exploration, experimentation, and cultivation;
  • interviews with leading growers, breeders, researchers;
  • in-depth discussion of particular genera, species, or types of garden or cultivation;
  • ecology, floral communities, conservation, biodiversity and similar topics relating to the focus plant families, genera, and species.

Articles should be submitted by e-mail or on disk. Most document formats are acceptable; Microsoft Word is ideal. Articles may be submitted in hard copy if necessary, in which case they should be double-space on standard 8.5 x 11 or A4 paper. Illustrations are encouraged. Photographs and line art can be submitted electronically as graphics files (.gif, .jpeg, .bmp, and other formats are acceptable), or as prints which will be scanned during production.

Unless special arrangements are made, copyright on any article accepted for publication in BULBS becomes the property of the International Bulb Society (IBS).
